Built for fun in 72 hours during the Global Game Jam 2015 (jam page), Kanyon Bird is a mixture of QWOP with Flappy Bird, where the player attempts to safely fly a bird through a canyon filled with many rocks and trees.
The game stands out due to it’s use of the controller joysticks for flying the bird. Left stick controls the left wing, and right stick the right. The player must flick the sticks up and down in synchrony to generate lift and go up, or flicking just one of them when they want to move sideways.
I worked as the only programmer on this project, along side two talented artists (André Brites & Madalena Leitão).
I mostly focused on building the analog stick controls and the bird physics, as well as the UI and menus.
This project allowed me to learn and become comfortable with the new UI system implemented in the latest versions of the Unity Engine.
I was also responsible for importing both the 2d and 3d assets.
